YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tens of thousands of Citi volunteers across the world will be mobilized in the company
’s second annual
“Global Community Day,
” Saturday, November 17. Citi expects more than 58,000 volunteers will be participating in over 1,000 projects around the world in 100 countries.
Many Citi employees volunteer year-round in their communities. Global Community Day is an annual initiative to have company employees, along with their families and friends, come together as a global volunteer team on a single day each year. Local volunteer teams will be working in North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa on a variety of projects addressing specific community needs including literacy, housing, environmental protection, nutrition, and health care.

Highlights of Citi’s volunteer projects from around the world:
- New York: Volunteers are collecting and “scrubbing” cell phones for local crisis centers. Hundreds are walking/running to raise funds for the World Food Program's school feeding initiatives. And others are teaching financial education, delivering Thanksgiving dinners, and painting murals in schools.
- Connecticut: Citi volunteers are cleaning a river and restoring a park’s skating rink in concert with a long-standing non-profit partner.
- Across the U.S.: Branches and offices across the country are collecting food donations and delivering to local food pantries.
- Poland and Turkey: Volunteers are conducting financial education workshops to adults and children.
- Brazil, Colombia, and Panama: Volunteers are building homes, revitalizing neighborhoods, and refurbishing schools.
- Peru: Rebuilding schools destroyed in recent earthquake
- China: Employees are distributing energy-saving light bulbs and environmentally safe shopping bags
- Japan: River and beach clean-ups. Tokyo and Okinowa are extremely popular events.
- Mexico: Volunteers are coordinating a country-wide food drive in 54 cities, working in conjunction with a national food bank network
- Canada: Improving homeless shelter conditions
