Michael Dunn Will Lead Company's Effort to Grow Institutional Services Division
Michael S. Dunn, an executive with more than two decades of experience in the financial services industry, has joined U.S. Global Investors (Nasdaq:GROW - News) as director of institutional services.
Mr. Dunn, 44, will lead U.S. Global's sales team focused on growing the company's base of assets from registered investment advisors, foundations, endowments and other institutions. He will be based in Boston.
"We are making a strong push into the institutional market, which we see as a key component of our strategy of growing our assets under management," says Susan McGee, U.S. Global's president. "The director of institutional services is a critical position for our future, so we were very selective about our choice. Michael's deep industry knowledge and experience, combined with an outstanding network, will help us take our business to the next level."
U.S. Global Investors, which manages several top-performing mutual funds in the natural resources and emerging markets sector, has grown its SEC-registered fund assets under management from an average of $1.35 billion in the quarter ended September 30, 2004 to $4.6 billion for the quarter ended September 30, 2006.
"It's an exciting time to join U.S. Global. The firm has enjoyed strong growth and broadening identification within its special niche, and it has an entrepreneurial environment with visionary leadership," says Mr. Dunn. "Opportunities exist to expand our focus on RIAs, intermediaries, and subadvisory and offshore offerings."
Mr. Dunn began his career as a registered representative at Fidelity Investments in Boston in 1985 before moving to San Francisco to take a regional sales position at Charles Schwab & Co.
In 1994, Mr. Dunn joined Robertson Stephens & Co. in San Francisco, where as a vice president for investment management sales he co-managed a mutual fund sales department focused primarily on investment advisors, foundations and endowments.
Mr. Dunn later co-founded Elijah Asset Management, where he served as chief operating officer and director of sales. He led a team that raised more than $1 billion in mutual fund, hedge fund and separate account assets in 18 months.
Before joining the U.S. Global Investors team, Mr. Dunn was an alternative investment consultant and was associate director of development at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
