The Senate is expected to vote on legislation later this year that would require insurance companies to provide mental health coverage.
Lawmakers came to a last-minute agreement on "Timothy's Law" Friday, just as the session was ending.
The bill is named after Timothy O'Clair, who killed himself back in 2001 when he was just 12-years-old.
His parents had given up custody of him in order for him to receive public-funded treatment.
Following his death, the O'Clairs pushed lawmakers for years to agree on the legislation.
Timothy's father says he's relieved that his long battle in his son's name is showing results.
"It was very hard for me to trust anything for a little while, I had emotionally crashed and had to think things through and regroup. But now I'm feeling very confident and very good," said Tom O'Clair.
Timothy would have graduated high school this year.
