Self-employed Floridians cannot be denied health insurance because of pre-existing health conditions this month.
Self employed Floridians need only show documentation of running an active business when applying, according to the Florida Association of Health Underwriters. Coverage can be obtained from insurance companies or HMOs that write group business for groups between 1 and 50 employees in Florida.
"This is an important opportunity for the self-employed to shop their existing coverage or to get coverage if they are currently without health insurance," says Stephanie Denz, president of the association.
