DES MOINES, Iowa -- State officials said 2007 is a record year for disasters in Iowa.
So far, federal disaster payments top $65 million.
That's just from winter ice storms and snow storms. It doesn't include requested assistance for flooding in southwest Iowa and from last week's tornadoes in eastern Iowa.
Bret Voorhees of the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management said the state has never had three presidential disaster declarations in one year, much less in the first five months heading into tornado season.
Iowa received $61 million in federal money for an ice storm that hit eastern Iowa in late February. Another $4 million was awarded after a blizzard in western Iowa in early March.
State officials said an additional $26 million in requested assistance for flooding this spring is being processed.
Tornado damage to public property from Friday's tornadoes stands are almost $3 million.
