Most insurance companies stopped writing coverage for homeowners' insurance on the S.C. coast as of this morning, according to the S.C. Insurance News Service.
"It's too late to get insurance coverage in place prior to Ernesto arriving in South Carolina," Allison Dean Love, executive director of the news service, said in a news release.
Wind and hail coverage, as well as flood insurance, are available, but with waiting periods: 15 days for wind and hail insurance, and 30 days for flood insurance.
The S.C. Insurance News Service today activated its catastrophe public awareness program in advance of Ernesto. The agency provides damage estimates and company customer claim numbers, among other things.
