NEW YORK (AP) -- Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. said Monday it tapped American International Group Inc.'s Daniel S. Glaser to lead the financial services company's insurance brokerage business, Marsh Inc.

Glaser, 47, is currently managing director of AIG Europe (U.K.) Ltd. and the regional president of AIG's American International Underwriters UK/Ireland division. He will assume his duties as chairman and chief executive of Marsh Inc. next Monday.

When Marsh Inc.'s former chief executive, Brian M. Storms, stepped down in September, the company's stock fell 6 percent in a day. Some people speculated he was forced to leave because the unit was performing poorly.

Glaser began his insurance career as a broker at Marsh in 1982, working in New York, London and Saudi Arabia. Next he worked for eight years at Willis Group Holdings Ltd., where he was president of Willis Risk Solutions. He joined AIG in 2000.

"Dan has broad expertise in the insurance industry as well as firsthand knowledge of the Marsh organization," Marsh & McLennan's CEO, Michael G. Cherkasky, said in a statement.
