Smokers now have even more reason to kick the habit as Tesco Life Insurance today announces its 'quit for life' promise, which guarantees to reduce their premium to that of a non smoker after thirteen months - as long as the policyholder's general health hasn't deteriorated and they pledge to stay off the cigarettes!
This means a reformed 20 a day male smoker, aged 45 next birthday with £100,000 of Tesco Life Insurance cover over 20 years, could almost halve their original premium from £40.33 per month to just £22.13 a month, a saving of more than £4300 over the term of the policy.
Customers simply contact Tesco Life Insurance, one of the UK's leading life insurers, thirteen months after their last nicotine fix and they promise to re-quote the premium based on the new non smoking status and individual circumstances.
James Yerkess, head of life insurance comments: "Many people aren't aware that they can ask their life insurer to re-quote their policy if they have stopped smoking for thirteen months or more. It's surprising that more companies don't seem to shout about it. "
Yerkess continues: "We hope that by highlighting our promise we encourage smokers to stop and stay stopped, as the link between smoking and early death is clear and well documented in life insurer's claims statistics. "
Amanda Sandford, research manager from ASH adds: “We welcome any measure that encourages smokers to quit for life. This promise from Tesco Life Insurance clearly highlights that stopping smoking not only benefits your health but also your wallet."
Yerkess concludes: "With smoking banned in all public places in Scotland and soon to be banned in the rest of the UK, there has never been a better time to make that quit for life promise."
