The Staffer Index - a proven tool for performing background checks - will
be offered to children's camps nationwide
HAWLEY, Pa., and NEW YORK, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- AMSkier Insurance and
CampMinder today announced a new partnership designed to improve the safety of children nationwide. Through this partnership, The Staffer Index - a
unique and proven background-checking tool for children's camps - will be
offered to camps across the country.
AMSkier Insurance (http://www.amskier.com), the largest direct insurer
of children's camps in the country, created The Staffer Index in 1985 for
its insurance clients. It is a listing of all staff employees and their
camp employment history. It does not include evaluations, comments or
references - simply a name and his/her employment history.
"We're excited to have found a partner dedicated to children's safety
who can help expand the use of The Staffer Index nationwide," said Henry
Skier, president of AMSkier Insurance. "The Staffer Index allows camp
directors to discover unsuitable employees by getting to the truth about
their past employment history - with access to information that is always
accurate and does not expose its users to liability for defamation. Its use
defines due diligence."
CampMinder (http://www.campminder.com), the camp industry's leading
technology company, provides camps with a secure, powerful web-based system
that simplifies camp management. With this new partnership, CampMinder and
AMSkier will offer The Staffer Index to both their respective camp clients
(as part of their existing service) and to camps nationwide on a
subscription basis.
"Ensuring the safety of other people's children at residential and day
camps continues to be the number one priority of camp directors," said Dan
Konigsberg, founder and president of CampMinder. "This is an opportunity
for camps everywhere to rally together for children's safety. This
partnership will add tens of thousands of names to The Staffer Index and
make it even more effective and valuable for camps nationwide."
According to Konigsberg, whenever any CampMinder user reviews a staff
application, CampMinder automatically searches The Staffer Index and
provides camp director references if the applicant is found to have worked
at another camp. "Searching The Staffer Index should be an automatic and
routine part of every camp's hiring process, and through this partnership,
now it actually is," said Konigsberg.
"The Staffer Index has helped identify child molesters, and it aided
the state police in identifying and tracking a molester who was moving from
one camp to another," Skier said. "It is the best resource that camp
directors can use to check the backgrounds of staff before they are
convicted of a crime, or who may be otherwise inappropriate for camp
employment."
The Staffer Index has been endorsed as an effective background-checking
tool by several local law enforcement authorities, including sheriff and
district attorney offices.
Camps that participate in The Staffer Index:
* Provide an electronic listing of staff names annually.
* Alert potential employees that they will be listed in the index as a
way to track their camp employment history.
* Check The Staffer Index for any or all applicants to see where they
have been previously employed
* Use the names, addresses and phone numbers provided to contact their
colleagues if they want a reference for an applicant.
According to Konigsberg, users of The Staffer Index can search only by
staff name, and not by camp. In other words, this data is secure, cannot be
mined, and can be used only for the purpose of protecting children and
camps.
