VIVAS Health launches Price War in health insurance sector in response to VHI's planned 12.5% premium hike

by FinFacts.com - Jun 27,2006

VIVAS Health has announced that it will cut its prices for new customers from the end of July until mid September by offering 50% off its premiums for children. The price cut will see an average family of five switching to VIVAS Health We Plan Level 2 from VHI Plan B saving €471 on their annual premium.

The VIVAS Health ‘50% Off’ offer is available for core hospital plans and applies to all children under the age of 18 and also to students and apprentices up to age 23. The offer means that children and students can now be covered with health insurance from €81 for a first child/student, €43.50 for the second and third child/student, with subsequent children/students free of charge, based on the ‘we plan’ Level 1. A family moving from VHI Plan B to VIVAS Health ‘we plan’ Level 2, can make savings of €250 for a family with one child; €362 for a family with two children and €471 for a family with three or more children. To access this promotional pricing customers must select one of 4 start dates for their cover, the first of which is 31 July.

Discussing the price cuts, Oliver Tattan, Chief Executive, VIVAS Health said: “VIVAS Health is committed to offering long-term value to our members for their health insurance needs and so we are slashing our prices on selected dates from the end of July until mid September. This latest price cut means that we are now 28% cheaper than the VHI on our family plans, and that’s without taking into account their proposed 12.5% increase in premiums. It’s time for consumers to start shopping around for their health insurance needs and I’d encourage everyone to research the various options during the month of July and to consider how much they can save with our substantial price cut. The HIA (Health Insurance Authority) recently kicked off its campaign to highlight how simple the entire switching process is and there is no loss in cover when you switch health insurers.”
