Spectrum Laboratory Network said it will continue to be a provider of lab services for UnitedHealthcare in the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.
The Greensboro medical lab made the announcement about three weeks after Burlington-based Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings Inc. (NYSE: LH) said it had signed a 10-year, $3 billion agreement with the Minnesota-based insurance company.
Under that agreement, LabCorp became the exclusive national lab for UnitedHealthcare and also agreed to help the insurer implement and manage regional lab networks.
The Spectrum announcement didn't say whether LabCorp was involved in its relationship with UnitedHealthcare.
Spectrum was created by a consortium of Triad hospitals several years ago, but a majority stake in the company has since been sold to the private equity group Apax Partners. Only Moses Cone Health System, in Greensboro, retains a stake in the company.
