PCs favored over cell-phone banking

 by Pacific Business News

Internet use on cell phones is growing, but people still prefer personal computers when it comes to banking, according to an IBM survey in the United States, China and the United Kingdom.

According to the international survey, consumers use cell phones for Internet maps and directions, instant messaging, reading the news and e-mailing. But they do not feel comfortable with cell-phone banking and trading stocks.

A poll earlier this year for Fiserv Inc., an information management provider, found 75 percent of U.S. customers would consider banking via cell phone if it is offered, up from 49 percent in 2006.

Industry leaders say the future availability of IP wireless broadband and affordable prices will change the way companies, such as banks, do business with customers.
