NEW YORK (Reuters) - The value of announced global mergers and acquisitions has reached $1.653 trillion for 2006, the highest year-to-date figure on record, according to Dealogic.
The figure is up 38 percent on last year's $1.191 trillion and beats the previous year-to-date record of $1.649 trillion in 2000.
Dealogic said Goldman Sachs (GS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) leads the global M&A advisory ranking for 2006 with deals of $484 billion, followed by J.P. Morgan (JPM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on $444 billion, and Citigroup (C.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on $424 billion.
Top industries for M&A in 2006 so far have been telecoms, finance, utilities and energy, and real estate, Dealogic said.
