New LexisNexis(R) Market Intelligence Offering to Provide Corporate Transaction Data for a Full View of Clients & Prospects

by Business Wire - May 08,2006

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2006--LexisNexis First to Market with Tool Delivering Both Transaction and Litigation Data to Support Strategic Client Development Efforts

LexisNexis,(R) the leading provider of client development solutions for the legal profession, announced today that it has signed an exclusive deal with FactSet Research Systems Inc. (NYSE:FDS). FactSet is a leading provider of financial intelligence to the business community. Under the terms of the deal, LexisNexis will integrate FactSet content within its LexisNexis(R) Market Intelligence tool and on its flagship LexisNexis research systems.

FactSet's transaction data supports investment banking, management consulting and professional services customers in identifying new opportunities and conducting in-depth quantitative analysis, helping them make more confident investment decisions and track the companies that are important to them and their clients.

The new product offering, to be released in the summer of 2006, makes Market Intelligence the first in its class to provide combined litigation and transaction data in one client development product. With integrated access to transaction content covering North America, Asia and Europe, world-class litigation data, as well as comprehensive news and business content, Market Intelligence is the only product to offer the depth and breadth of decision-support information that firms require today to obtain a comprehensive view of their clients, prospects and competitors in support of their growth strategies.

"The ability to quickly identify which law firms were involved in litigation as well as financial transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and IPO's will provide us significant value as we identify cross-selling opportunities between our litigation and transaction groups and otherwise execute on our client development strategy," said Jasmine Trillos-Decarie, director of marketing at Goodwin Procter LLP. "With the integration of litigation and transaction data into a single product, LexisNexis is demonstrating that it understands the type of comprehensive competitive intelligence and analysis tools law firm marketers and business development professionals need to help grow the organization."

With the enhanced LexisNexis Market Intelligence product, users will be able to access detailed, regularly updated information on publicly announced mergers, acquisitions, asset sales and divestitures involving both public and private companies, the adoption of key anti-takeover devices such as poison pills, as well as initial public offering (IPO) and secondary offering data on US companies.

The unique value of the enhanced Market Intelligence product lies in the ease with which firms will be able to leverage both litigation and transaction data to grow their practices. Specifically, users will be able to conduct rapid searches focused on specific companies or based on broader characteristics such as market size, industry, case and deal types and volumes, for the purpose of qualifying prospects, identifying cross-selling opportunities, keeping up to date on client and industry trends, monitoring marketing success and tracking ROI through client share trends.

"LexisNexis Market Intelligence is a great tool for law firm marketers who need comprehensive market information and competitive intelligence to support practice-growth activities," said Norm Rubenstein, a partner of Zeughauser Group, a strategic legal marketing consulting firm. "With the addition of transaction data to the product, marketers will have a comprehensive resource to aid in cross-selling, new business development, new-office integration, hiring, mergers and acquisitions and other key functions."

"In this era of information overload, law firm marketers have told us they want comprehensive information on the competitive environment, incorporating both transaction and litigation content that's accessible via intuitive searches and that provides quick and fast answers to business questions," said Mason White, vice president of market and product planning at LexisNexis. "Market Intelligence is the only product available to the legal market that helps answer strategic questions such as, 'What is our share of a particular client or industry versus that of our competitors,' 'How has that share changed over time,' or 'What has been the impact or ROI over time of our marketing efforts?"

Moreover, through the flagship LexisNexis research systems, researchers can access this FactSet content to search for specific deals, review deals for exemplars -- ideal examples of agreements that attorneys can use to help formulate their own contract language -- or use LexisNexis Alerts to stay current via email updates new document types, specific companies or other criteria.

LexisNexis Market Intelligence provides the most comprehensive news, business and court-record based litigation coverage of a law firm's clients and prospects, facilitating quick, smart decisions about targeting and cross-selling. Market Intelligence is one product within a growing portfolio of LexisNexis client development tools and services designed to help law firms compete more effectively and grow their practices.
