Veteran banking executive Ross Kari on June 21 will become Safeco's executive vice president and chief financial officer, the insurance company announced.
After a five-month search, Safeco picked Kari to succeed Christine Mead, who left the company in December. He will oversee Seattle-based Safeco's (NASDAQ: SAFC - News) financial operations as a member of the company's executive team.

Kari was executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. He began his career at Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC - News), rising to the rank of executive vice president and chief financial officer.

"Ross Kari's rich and varied career in financial services will bring discipline and innovation to our company and our industry," Safeco president and CEO Paula Rosput Reynolds said in a prepared statement.
